It’s not “the thought that counts”.

I’ve been thinking about this one lately. And, I don’t think “it’s the
thought that counts” is really true.
Thinking good things about someone, for someone or to someone won’t count
unless telepathy makes some major breakthrough.
Even the saying itself is almost never used just about thinking.
It’s used about some action.
Usually an action that didn’t work out well, wasn’t what was hoped for or
didn’t seem to measure up.
So, to me at least, it should be more of “thank you for remembering me”,
“thank you for giving that a try” or “thank you for the effort you made.”
