After I came out of the museum I decided to head to the beach. The tram line that ran there was under construction, so I decided to walk.
And, it looked like interesting streets to explore.

Google said it was only 3 away. I thought it meant km, but no, it meant miles.
I did reach the harbor, but it took longer than I thought. That's what I get for not checking units.

The seaport looked nice, and quite interesting, but I really wanted the beach, so I kept going.

I knew I must be close when I started seeing people with surfboards.

If the tram line had been running it would have been easier on my feet, but, finally I saw the sea.

There was some sort of "Mini" event going on at the beach.

I ignored it, took off my shoes and walked in the sand.
Having learned lessons from lawyers losing shoes in Florida, I took my shoes with me...

It is a BEAUTIFUL beach. Like the Van Gogh photos yesterday, these photos do not do it justice.

I had to go in.

In all honesty, it didn't feel much colder than the beach where we took the kids last month: http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/781859.html

There were folks surfing, but they were wearing wetsuits.

I decided to walk along in the surf for a while. There were a good number of other folks doing the same, but no one swimming.

There were lots of little shells in the sand. Nice, but a bit sharp at times too.

I have trouble relating how at home I felt on this beach I had never even heard of before today.
There really is a part of me that feels at home here. I have no idea why.
As far as I can tell a few of my family lived here for 10 years 400 years ago. That hardly counts at making it one of my ancestral homelands.
But, it really does feel that way.

They also have "Fairytale Sculptures by the Sea".

Some of these I know. Some I do not.

Sleeping with the toad? Nope.

Gulliver? Yep

Looking in the mound? Nope.

Moby Dick? Yep.

The herring eater? Nope.

As [livejournal.com profile] 64tbird referenced this over on my facebook today, I think she probably knows it...

Crying giant? Nope.

On the gallows? Nope.

Lion and the mouse? Yep.

Guy bound on a plate? Nope.

There were some others too, but I decided it was time to head back. So, I passed the guy guarding the beach and headed out.

As I did, a really cool ship sailed past. Don't know where they're going, but they look good going there.

I walked a bit more an came to a tram line that was working, so I took that back into the city.

I went and bought my train ticket for the morning so I can get to the airport with plenty of time for my flight.

I wandered around near the hotel some and bought some stuff to bring home with me. I've still got some euro left. Can't leave Europe with Euros in your pocket. I'll have to find something to buy tomorrow.
NOT the penis slippers!

It was certainly good for me to get the two days off.
We'll see how the head of the division feels about it Monday.
But, my boss approved it all, so I don't think there is much he can say.

I don't think he can say anything about it at all unless it's approval.
