I dreamed that work was sending me to China to inspect some parts.
I was at the airport waiting to get on the plane. As I am a big guy, I
asked if I could get a better seat for such a long flight.
“We have a special seat, just for you,” I was told.
We were brought onto a 747 and I was pointed to the center front seat of
the coach section, which is the middle seat of 5.
There was a big roll cage built around it.
“This is your seat,” the air flight attendant told me. “The only roll cage
on the plane.”
“I meant extra leg room,” I told her.
“This is the best seat on the plane,” she replied.
I got into the cage. I was not very comfortable. And I had to slouch down
to get it closed. I did not want to spend a 16 hour flight in it.
“You’re lucky you got the cage,” the woman sitting next to me said. “I’d
love to get the cage. I’m still single and don’t want to die.”
“I’m married and don’t want to die either,” I told her. “But, I don’t
think this cage will do much if the whole plane crashes.”
I called over the flight attendant.
“I’m wondering if I could move to another seat. If I could get a window
seat, it would be great.”
“We have a window seat up front if that is OK,” she said.
“That would be fine,” I told her.
She brought me up to the cockpit and put me in a window seat next to the
pilot. There was no copilot spot.
“Good to have someone up here to keep me company,” the pilot said to me.
The plane left the gate. But, instead of going to the runway, it drove out
of the airport on the regular roads.
“Aren’t we going to use the runway?” I asked him.
“Nope, too expensive. We can save a lot of money by taking off from one of
the highways around here. I just have to find one with enough room for a
747.”
We drove for a long time. We ended up in the mountains west of here where
all the fall foliage was on the trees. We were going down a small road on
the side of one of the mountains. When we got to the bottom, the pilot
signaled to turn onto the main road into town.
“This should do it,” he told me.
“Don’t you need 5 miles of straight road to take off?”
“Yeah, but we should get that going into this town.”
“I can see the town right over there,” I said, pointing to it. “It’s not 5
miles away.”
“Close enough,” he said, and pushed the throttle forward.
Dream ends

I’m not at all sure what this is about. Some of the things I can
understand.
Although a month left until the official start of fall, some of the signs
have begun. I’ve been dealing with China all week on some parts. Going
through the photos I took with the kids last week there was a big 747
landing in Boston as we were out on the island under it. And, my company
is obsessed with saving money right now, and doing some stupid things
because of it.
But, the roll cage? No idea on that.
Or, why it all came together like this…
