First car accident for my little Prius

As I still was not feeling 100% today, I decided to drive my own car to the Phoenix Swords show today so that if I felt sick I could go home.
So, I drove out the hour west to the very pretty mountains along the Connecticut river valley.

When I got off of the highway in Northampton, there was a Jeep Cherokee in front of me. As we came up to a big Y junction, they were on the left and I thought they were going to go left. So, I went to their right so I could go straight.
Suddenly, the made a sharp right turn directly in front of me into the gas station on my right. I hit the breaks and turned the wheel hard, but I couldn’t avoid they as they slid along the side of my car.

I guess the good news was it wasn’t very busy at 8:20 Easter morning, so no other cars were involved.

I did my best to dodge and because of that we were almost parallel when we hit. So instead of my car being destroyed, the are just some dents and scratched paint.

Not so much damage to the other vehicle.

They response of the other driver and his wife were “we only thought there was one lane.”

The police officer who showed up agreed with me that there were two, but agreed with them that it was not at all clearly marked. He declined to give either of us tickets as he said the other guy shouldn’t have turned right from the left lane, and I should have been more sure of where the car in front of me was going before I tried to go around to it.
We’ll see what the insurance companies say.
I’m quite sad about this as I like my little car. But, the damage could have been much worse.
