Homeward bound

Monday morning Tom was flying out to join his wife, son and inlaws in a
different part of Florida. I had agreed to drive him to the airport. At
the time I agreed, the full implication of his 6AM flight hadn’t
registered. But, at 3:45 AM when my alarm went off, it had a bit more
effect.
None the less, I had him to the airport by 4:30 so he could get through
security and be on his way.
After that, I returned to the hotel, finished my packing and got everyone
on the road about 6AM local time.
I find it very funny that both my wife and I independently decided to
document how awake we were as we were getting ready to go.

Ready or not, we were on the road about 6.

Before dawn in Florida it can be quite foggy.

Once the sun comes up, the fog goes away.

There was a storm coming across the country and I wanted to get ahead of
it. But, we left early and had hours of extra time.
So, we stopped for a good breakfast outside Montgomery AL.

The attitude in the car on the way home is very different. On the way down
everyone is worried and looking forward at the same time.
Will they remember their fights? Will everything go OK? Will the acts go
over well?
On the way home, everything is done. The shows went over well. Everyone
is happy, but tired. And, without the impending show on their mind there
are other things to think about.
Like, can you make a hat on the seat behind you look like it is on your
head in the mirror?

(No, I guess you can’t.)
Or, learning new card games.

Bit by bit, you move up the coast.

Still making good time, we indulged in a sit down lunch/dinner as well.

A bit of this was because we’ve eaten at Fatz before. But, most of it was
the giant peachoid next to it.

Everyone loves the peachoid.

Night fell as we went through North Carolina. As we drove through, we saw
a truck in front of us with strange glowing shapes on it.

We really wondered what this strange thing was.
Finally

were seeing was the ends of pipes with the tail lights from the cab shining
through.
She is smart.
We got into Virginia just about midnight and stopped in a fairly empty part
of the state. In the 12 years since we started these trips, a lot has been
added. Including this rest area.

It is a full service rest area having pizza, fishing and game licenses all
at the same place.

Someone with my last name was smart enough to think of it, but not me.

I’ve already covered the morning drive and Tuesday unloading.
So, let me just say that the folks this time were a good bunch of driving
companions and the trip was far more of a pleasure than some years in the
past.
My thanks to all the folks who made this such a good job!

Date: 2013-03-07 12:56 am (UTC)I'm glad I was able to drive, even if not in the car I was planned to. It was good to help with the driving.
(even if I seemed to need a few more breaks, but it didn't seem to slow us down too much, NJ and NY was the real pain
but I wasn't driving by then)
The atmosphere in the Soob was pretty good, Morgan provided a bunch of questions and things to keep me
talking, in the same way John was able to get you going on religion and physics. I feel bad I wasn't able to
do that nearly as well as he did on the drive down though.
I actually enjoyed the stop in The Nothing that we made, I think we were all punchy enough we managed to amuse
ourselves and prepare for the long haul.
