What, are they dancing now?
Jan. 14th, 2013 08:36 amOur apartment has long had a pixie infestation.
You know how it goes: you can’t find something and then suddenly it is
right there where you not only looked, but couldn’t possibly have missed it
before.
Granted, our apartment is very cluttered. Neither of us is big on throwing
things away, both of us are big on collecting things. And, we have
hobbies/second jobs that require a lot of additional material. (Swords,
costumes, props, reference books, etc.)
So, two people in a 2 ½ bedroom apartment is still pretty full.
And, that does lead to a lot of pixie problems.
Last night though, I’m not sure what was going on.
I got to sleep late, and didn’t sleep well. (A fairly common thing.)
Saturday night I had dreamed about the storage cassettes I designed at
work, and had not really found that restful. So, I had been hoping to
sleep better Sunday night.
About 2AM it felt like something landed on my back. Not anything heavy.
It felt like someone had thrown a shirt or something on top of my blanket.
I rolled over to look, nothing there. My wife was rolled the other way and
clearly asleep.
I pulled up my blankets and went back to sleep.
A bit later, it happened again. Nothing there.
If those pixies (or my dreams) are trying to send me a message, I wish
they’d just get an email account and let me know what they’re on about.
Now, I do have family history with pixies.
Over 100 years ago, before my grandparents got married, my grandfather went
to visit his in-laws to be at their home in Troy New York. It was a big
old house that still had a hand pump for water. Each night they left a
bucket of water by the pump.
While hand pumps do work best if you can prime them with a bit of water
first, he was told that this water was not for that, but was for the pixies.
Years before they had an Irish housekeeper who always left the bucket full
of water for the pixies at night. My great grandfather had apparently
thought this foolish and told her this.
Then, one night he came out to the kitchen in the middle of the night and
found it on fire.
He used the bucket of water to put it out, and ever since had agreed to
keep the bucket of water there for the pixies.
So, maybe they’re upset there was not water set out for them?
Or maybe it is weird dreams.
Don’t know.
I hope it isn't that invisible Freddie Kruger from last week.

Date: 2013-01-14 04:04 pm (UTC)When we moved in 19 years ago they tried to convince us that what is now marked as a "study" on the floor plan was really a 3rd bedroom. No door, no closet and totally open to the living room? Not a good bedroom.
We usually call it "the office", but study works too.
