I'll keep a lookout, though presently all the SW guys I know are working on projects or working with companies up here in NH.

I hope that the job search for a good software person isn't as awful as what you've been enduring for replacements in your mechanical engineering group.
At least, you won't be spending alot of time on this one.

Is this a replacement for someone who left, or is an expansion of the SW team needed?

Someone is leaving us.
I guess he thinks the work for us is to demanding in hours, so he's going to work for a consulting firm.
