That didn’t work
Dec. 6th, 2012 10:09 amThe night before I didn’t sleep well as I was coming down with a cold. All
day yesterday I felt very tired and run down.
Last night I took the night time liquid version of some cold fighting stuff
that is supposed to work with my high blood pressure medicine. It is
supposed to suppress cold symptoms and let you sleep.
I feel asleep for an hour and then woke back up and couldn’t get to sleep
for the next three hours. After that I was able to sleep on a fifteen
minutes awake, fifteen minutes asleep pattern. That kept up until about 3
in the morning when I fell asleep for a whole 90 minutes before getting up
for good.
My stuffed up head did not go away for any of that.
I often react in strange ways to medication. Not usually in any kind of
life threatening way, but often in unusual side effect ways.
When I was younger I had trouble getting my teeth fixed as Novocain
wouldn’t last the length of time it took for them to drill a tooth. I’m
lucky that these days they have developed more powerful variants that do
work on me. I still burn through them faster than normal, but they last
long enough to do some work.
I have similar problems with most cold and/or allergy medication. Either
it does nothing at all for me or does strange things to me that still
aren’t good. One “non-drowsy” brand turns me into a total zombie where I
just sit where I am and stare straight ahead until it wears off.
Most of those I’m not supposed to take these days as they don’t go well
with my high blood pressure. But, there is a brand that is supposed to be
OK with that. I’ve tried it before with mixed results. Last night was
clearly one of the “not good” nights.
But, for all of that, I feel better today than yesterday. Not much, but a
bit.

Date: 2012-12-10 02:38 am (UTC)That time I go wired from Nyquil- it was like having drunk 5 cups of super-caffinated coffee. Really unpleasant.
I haven't taken Nyquil since... though before that time, it usually knocked me out, which was a good thing. Now, though, even at night i take Dayquil.
