We have two new members to Phoenix Swords, both of whom will be doing their
very first performance with us tomorrow.
The newer of them is a college student at Smith College and is studying
engineering.
As she has no car, we are going to give her a ride to the show tomorrow.

But, that left the question of where to pick her up.
I don’t know any of the dorms, library or campus center.
“What about the art museum?” I asked her. “I know how to find the art
museum at Smith College.”
“We have an art museum?” she asked.
“Of course you have an art museum,” I said. “I’ve been there.
“What do I know about art museums? I’m an engineer!” she shouted.

Kids these days.
My engineering school didn’t even have an art museum. But, I knew where
the one closest was located.

Pick her up at the Hampshire bus stop.

There appears to be a certain reluctance for her to travel in costume across campus...
Or, that is what it seems like to me.
If she stays with us, I'm sure we'll overcome that.

That makes Hampshire the PERFECT place to meet.

I know - I went to school there for four years...

She's new. It's her first show with us. I'll pick her up where she asks.
IF she does more shows with us, we will discuss other options.

Kids these days - if it isn't visible on their little glass screen in their hand, it doesn't exist in their minds...

Heck, I knew where ALL the museums were within a 15 mile radius around my college - and I went to them all, multiple times.

Of course, my advisor - who was the Dean of the engineering college - also tried to convince me to stop taking music history and theory classes.

That's just stupid.

Had your advisor never read "Godel, Escher, Bach"???

My father, who worked as an electrical engineer for 52 years, used to quote sections of that book to us over dinner.

I just gave my copy to my 15 year old.

That was around the age I read it.
I should read it again some time, I hardly remember it.

Alas, that advisor was not well versed -or interested- in things that were not explicitly "engineering". I ended up with a different advisor the following year, who was a much more "spiritual" and holistic in his views.

Although I lived in Worcester for more than a decade, and have lived only one town over for another 2 decades, there is one museum in the city I never got to see.
The Worcester Museum of Sanitary Plumbing.

My friends and I often discussed the "toilet museum" and our desire to see it.
But, it was only open to school groups and we never managed to get enough folks together to qualify.
I hear it closed a few years ago...

Well, they probably didn't have any benches there, anyway! ;-)

Benches? Maybe not.
But I bet they had a lot of seats...

Well, crap....

So you never got a handle on that museum, and trying to get a group together was a flush? And then the museum tanked?

Just trying to put a lid on the rumours....

Only one way to follow up on that statement - from one of my favorite groups...

They are still out there, they just moved 40 miles east:

Looks like their hours haven't changed....

Yeah I wanted to see the toliet museum off and on, but yeah it apparently closed, apparently not, etc.

there was an Eisenhower museum in Union Station I didn't know about until I read the article in the paper about it's closing because
noone visited it

*eyeroll*

As for your Smith engineer...I could have a smart retort of "Smith has engineers?" But I Know Better.

Hopefully she'll go to the art museum on campus. If not...She's not a [real] member of PS :D
