The manufacturing group wanted a way to give commands to the giant robot
freezer they’re finishing without having to run back and forth to the
computer.
The software people “thought” an iPad could do it for them.
But, accounting refused to buy them on unless it could be proven.
“Frank, can we borrow your iPad?” I was asked. “We want to bring it inside
the subzero giant robot freezer and see if it still works.”
“No, let’s not,” I told them. “Just in case it doesn’t work, I don’t want
my iPad frozen and maybe crushed for your experiment.”
“But, if it works, they’ll buy us a new one!”
“I still have my old iPad 1,” I told them. “I’ll bring that in and you can
do the experiment with that. But, even if that gets damaged you still have
to replace it.”
They agreed.
So, right now they’re loading the software on my old iPad so it can take
over a giant robot freezer.
Yay my old iPad!
