End of an era
Sep. 16th, 2012 07:58 amMy aunt and her husband have put their summer place in Westport up for sale.
They have been talking about this for a couple of years. They’re both in their mid-70’s and keeping two houses has become difficult for them.
They’re thinking that pretty soon they’ll need to move into an assisted living place and want to be able to afford a good one. If they can get the $650,000 they’re asking for the place, that will help them a lot.
It is sad because that is where I spent my summers growing up and I have lots of very nice memories from there.
Of course, the place is nothing like my memories. The house itself was replaced just over a dozen years ago and this one has nothing in common with it other than a couple of pieces of furniture.
The area that used to be all farms is now full of very expensive homes.
So, even if they don’t sell it, it will never be what I remember.
But, I am still sad to see it go. Even if fully OK with my Aunt’s decision.
