Accounting has just told us that engineering is again wildly over budget
for the last month.  This month is it more than double than last.  And,
last month we were told “fix it or there will be layoffs”.
As with July, this looks like it is mostly items ordered for the production
system that was charged to engineering and has to be transferred over.
And, my boss wants me to try and decode what some of these charges are so
they can be moved.

It’s tough with charge descriptions like:
“Remaining amount”
“Misc Parts”
“Paint Stocking”
“Ready to use sel”
“Automatic Center”

But the one that stood out the most was “Truly Endless B”.
I haven’t a clue to that.
But, last night while we were driving off to the movies, my wife suggested
some things it could mean and suggested a quiz.  So, here you go.

I read it immediately as "truly endless bullshit" and would so code any expenses that pertained to pointless and repetitive tasks (which could be meeting supplies for meetings hashing out the same old shit, supplies to run a simulation for the millionth time because someone thinks that This Time! we are going to get different results, etc.).

(but my more realstic answer, if it came coded that way from a supplier, is timing belts.)

Prossible, but it is only $25, which is not much for a belt.

I also think that it was a belt, as in your gantry drive system.

Honestly, who is ordering these parts and who is receiving them such that none of it is charged against the proper accounts? Or, are they all the
"scramble around and put it on the engineering credit card and ship it overnight" sorts of stop-gap items?

For 2 1/2 years this has been THE development project for the division and we bought all sorts of things for it. (Including 3 entire prototype machines at more than 1 million each.)
So, there is a habit of saying anything for the project goes on this account instead of sorting it by the customer codes.
I think that moving forward it will be sorted. But, we're dealing with the last few months before that was dictated.
