#27) Whether you like to plan ahead or be spontaneous
Yes.
There are things I think need to be well planned ahead.
If we’re flying somewhere. If other people’s schedules have to match with
ours.
If things are going to cost us a lot of money.
But, far more, I am big on spontaneous.
I like plans, but with a lot of flexibility.
Many years ago, my (now) wife and I went on a vacation in Maine. She
suggested we get a hotel reservation. I said we’d find one when we got
there. This did not make her happy.
We drove up to Bar Harbor and drove to the center of town to the hotel
right on the harbor.
I went in, they were full.
As I came out, I saw a guy look at me, and drive off.
We went to the next hotel and I saw him coming out, so I realized they were
full and drove on.
This repeated down the road until we came to a place with one room.
As I came out of the hotel lobby, he drove up. I held up the room key. He
scowled and drove on.
It drove my wife crazy not knowing where we’d end up.
I kind of liked it.
But, I was only willing to do that in a place I knew had about 50 hotels in
a 3 mile area.
We tried something similar this summer going out to Kentucky and found that
Buffalo was
full. So, it didn’t work that time.
Or, like our trip
Saturday.
We didn’t think of it until Friday and did it Saturday. So, that’s
spontaneous. But, we pre-bought the ferry tickets so that’s a bit planned.
So, I like to plan the broad strokes ahead, but do the details
spontaneously.
