Lunch win!

As I’ve discussed before, every Thursday I like to go to Whole Foods for
lunch.   There are folks who go there every day from my office, but that’s
way too expensive for me.

I like to get their Panini sandwiches, but they often have cheese on them.
So, I ask them to take it off.  This apparently has earned me the name Mr. No Cheese.

The woman who normally works there has been saying for months “I should
make a special sandwich without cheese for you on the day you come in.”
Last week she told me “Next Thursday for sure!”

But, Wednesday I was working late with my department and promised them
lunch on Thursday.  So, I did not do my normal Whole Foods run until today.

I walked in and there was some other person behind the counter.  I started
looking at the sandwiches.
“Can I help you?” the woman behind the counter asked.
“This woman was ahead of me,” I said, pointing to the woman who was there
when I walked up.
“Oh, I work here,” the other woman said, turning around.  It was the
Thursday sandwich woman out of her Whole Foods uniform.
“I’m glad to see you,” she said.  “I made a special sandwich without cheese
for you.”
She pointed and the sandwich of the day was a grilled chicken and avocado
sandwich.  Two of the things I had told her I liked.
“I thought you were going to do it on my normal day, Thursday,” I said.
“But, I couldn’t make it yesterday.”
“I forgot which day you said and made it today,” she told me.

They put it on the grill as I looked at the sushi.  I came back and the
woman handed me the sandwich.
“I think mine was the other one,” I said.
“That person didn’t come back yet, so you get the first one off,” she
replied.
It is hard to describe how nice that was.  Normally I have to keep track of
the sandwiches on the grill to make sure I don’t get the one that will make
me sick.
But, this time, they were all the same and I could get whichever was ready.

That was very nice.  And, it was a good sandwich too!
They also had my favorite at the sushi stand too.  (Inari)
So, it was a win all around!

However, I did think the hot food bar went too far:

$8 a pound for air!  No way!

But seriously, getting a special sandwich might not sound like much.  But,
having people where you shop remember that some of the food they make can
make you sick and going out of their way to avoid that is quite nice and I
appreciate it very much.

That's awesome!

I tend to get the same sub every time I go to Subway. When I worked at L'Office, the guy would see me coming and make my sandwich. Some days I jumped past 10 - 12 people in line, because everyone knew what to put on my sandwich. Made me smile every time. =D

Nice!

there [is] two pizza-sub shops I frequented when I was working - It almost got to the point where they started to recognize my face and all. One of the places knew what I was going to order and it was as if hardly a grunt or "hello" on the phone they knew what I wanted.

Years ago when I worked at the print shop, the deli I went to frequently, literally a mom & pop store, knew me by name.

It's an experience. :D
