I bought a new Newton
Jul. 13th, 2012 08:40 amI took some of the bonus money my company gave me and bought a new Newton
last night. (OK, if you insist, an iPad.)
I feel a bit guilty as the one I’ve had for 2 ½ years wasn’t actually
dying. There were a few apps I wanted to run, mostly photo editing ones,
that wouldn’t and the connector didn’t always work for the charge.
The new ones (certainly not a 3 according to Apple) are only an incremental
increase from the 2s and those were only an incremental increase from mine.
The sales folks at the store don't seem to know how to answer the most simple questions such as:
1) Will all of my wifi connections and passwords restore when I use the backup from my old iPad to restore this one. (No, they won't.)
2) Which iPad case is most likely to protect the iPad from being dropped off of the roof of a car at highway speed? (For the original iPad, the Apple case worked quite well. Spread out like bat wings and lowered it to the road surface.)
I had planned to get my wife a new laptop, since hers is overheating a lot.
But, she was fairly strongly against that, so I didn’t. We do still have
the big computer that she likes to use, so she isn’t computerless. And,
she points out that when traveling she just uses her iPad where I am more
likely to want the laptop for uploading lots of photos.
I’d get her a new one too, but she is trying to get her workplace to buy
her one just because they expect her to teach professors how to use them.
I do feel a bit guilty about just buying myself something. But, I don’t
want to buy her something she doesn’t want or need.
She says there is a sword she wants, so I guess I’ll settle for getting
that for her. And, maybe some halberds.
The very good news is that when I got home from the Apple store, my wife had made me my own chocolate cake! Yay!
