[livejournal.com profile] evrgreen’s band from up along the New Hampshire/Vermont border where the two of us worked 20+ years ago was doing a show in Boston. At the 40 miles to Boston is easier than the 150+ to the Upper Valley, we thought we’d go to the show in Boston.

On the way in I was very happy to see the Ezpass service center is open on Saturday. So, 2 1/2 months after getting the new car, I finally got the tape to stick the transponder on the windshield.

And, in a place it does not block my view.

Then, into Boston.

I did worry a bit about a parking garage where the sign basically says “we’re going to smash your windows and take anything cool you leave.”

But, everything worked out well.
And, it was right on the harbor.

And, a short walk (the red roofs) to where we were going.

When we were in Florida last December, we played in a ground level fountain that could spurt up at you when you didn’t expect it. (If you follow that link it is at the very bottom after a day at NASA.)
The Boston equivalent not only squirts water up at you when you don’t expect it, it shoots steam up at you too.

When I was growing up, this whole park place was an elevated highway. Now it is a park.

I guess that’s better. I like parks.

The concert was at Faneuil Hall where they have very nice 3D layouts of the buildings.

When we got there, it was not yet crowded.

And, we got to the actual hall well before the concert.

I hadn’t seen the new statue of the guy who was mayor most of the time I was growing up.

With most things from when I was a kid, I say “I thought they were taller when I was young.” But, not with the mayor. Look at him! He must be 8 feet tall!

There were competing events going on in the area.

It was generally agreed it was best not to have the karaoke contest next to the band concert. I guess that has happened in previous years.

But, it was not clear which even, if either, this went with...

Ignoring that, my wife and I joined Mrs [livejournal.com profile] evrgreen in the balcony to watch the concert.

We had a good view of Evrgreen and could see right down his saxophone.

He also had to do the announcing of each song.

It was a good size band. I told him I had expected it to be much smaller, this is more of an orchestra.

The music was very good and when over they got a standing ovation.

We waited outside while they packed up and debated going to Crabby Jack’s. But, decided it wouldn’t be worth it.

Eventually they were packed and we could deal with lunch.

We went to a place that claims to have been founded before I was born.

But, how do they know? Do they check IDs? It is very confusing.
We were joined at lunch by our friend Dawn who is also in the band. We haven’t seen her in a dozen or more years, so that was nice.

After lunch we decided to wander around the marketplace some.

But, by then it was much more crowded.

I was impressed by the guy doing a 1 man band and puppet show at the same time.

Everyone was impressed by this guy.

I guess he’s from a group that does this sort of thing.

If you put $1 in his pillar, you got a fortune. So, Evrgreen gave it a try.

I’m told the fortune was not as impressive as the guy giving them.

There was a guy hanging upside down while getting out of a straight jacket too.

But, that statue guy was cool. One of the most cool things (remember, this what I think is cool) is that when done he got down off of his stand and walked away. A plain clothed associate broke down and carried his stuff away.

Everyone watched the performer, and he didn’t have to break character to pack up his stuff. Hardly anyone noticed the guy picking up.
Professionals. They impress me.

We did go to the art museum store where I got my wife another present.

Then, we risked the food building to get some desert.

Afterwards we retired to a balcony and watched the people go by.

30 or so years ago, I knew the guy who owned this place.

He said it I was ever around to stop in say hi and get a drink on him. That was when i drank. Now, I don’t even remember his name. Ah well, one free drink, that I wouldn’t drink anyhow, because I can’t remember a name from 1981...

Eventually, we waked over to the aquarium to see the seals.

The seals are outside and free to watch.

We saw Codzilla setting sail, but still have no desire to do donuts in the outer harbor and get soaked, so let it sail without us.

Then, we gave our farewells and went back to the car.

It was a very nice visit. I’m glad we went in for the concert and visit.
