This is part of that ask 5 questions meme. These are the ones [livejournal.com profile] 64tbird gave me. If anyone else wants some from me, or has 5 things they want me to write about, let me know...

College:
This is a tough one. The 4 1/2 years I spent in college seem more like 20. They had a very profound difference in my life, only a small portion of which was education.
I drank while in college. I didn’t start until my freshman year. I quit before I got my first job out of college.
I made friends, many of whom were better than any I had before. Some of whom are still my friends 30 years later.
I fell in love. I met my wife between my sophomore and junior years.
I did not study until the very end. I was able to just barely get through without doing much work for 3 1/2 years. It was a pass fail school, so I didn’t have to worry about my GPA.
Then, in my senior year, I realized I hadn’t really been paying attention and if I wanted to be able to do anything after I graduated, I had better actually learn the stuff and not just get by.
So, I had to review 4 years of work in one semester. And, it worked out.

Swimming:
I love swimming. I love water in general.
When I was in High School I was on the swim team and swam 3-4 miles each day after school before going off to my job at the supermarket in the evenings.
I took lifesaving classes.
I got certified as a scuba diver.

To some extent I miss it. I still swim a few times a year. But, not every day all year long as it used to be. But, that took a huge amount of time.
Where I live now has a pool. But, it is often filled with young kids and it feels weird being the only one above 12 in the pool.
We try to get to the beach a few times each year. And, sometimes we swim on vacation.
Theoretically my scuba certification does not expire and I could take that up again. But, it’s been 30 years. Maybe I’m certified on paper, but I wouldn’t want to start doing it again without a new class.
And, I don’t have the time to do it as I used to.

Movies:
I love photos.
I love story telling.
So, I am almost forced to love movies just by the combination of those.
I do like lots of movies. The ones I don’t like are the ones with bad story telling. It really doesn’t matter what the genre is.
I do tend to look more for science fiction movies just because I like that sort of story telling.
My favorite movie is Harvey. “"In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. ”

Clowns:
Clowns have never had a big impact on me. I don’t find them particularly funny, I don’t find them particularly scary. They’re doing their job, and some do it better than others.
When I was growing up, my brother loved the clown “Willy Whistle”. He was a clown that whistled everything he said.
I hated that. The noise was annoying and I never understood why he didn’t just talk.
Of course, this just made my brother watch it more...
I will say that a google search of Willy Whistle brings up some interesting things, not all of which are the clown...

Travel:
My wife already asked me that one. So I’m just going to link to that one.
