Apr. 25th, 2012 08:49 amSaturday will be the eighth annual Historical Swordsmanship Conference out
at the Center for Renaissance Studies at the University of Massachusetts in
Amherst.
Each year I’ve presented something. Sometimes it is only the historical
demo Phoenix Swords normally does at shows. Sometimes it is new material
researched. A few times it was a statistical comparison of the different
types of attacks used in historical manuals. (I liked those best, but was
told it may have been too statistical for some folks.)
This year I’m looking at how Phoenix people interpreted three manuals for
the bec de corbin. This involves some comparison of the different attacks
and all, and how we looked at different moves between the different books
to fill in the gaps between them. (No, I still haven’t done the
bibliography yet…)
My question is, what should I use to project my slides at the conference?
I’ve got the Apple equivalent of PowerPoint on my iPhone, iPad and laptop.
All three project it equally well. The two idevices might even do it a bit
better as they have a pointer function that lets me touch the screen and
have a dot be projected.
I think it is really cool my iDevices can do this. And, I’ve used the iPad
for presentations at work.
But, somehow it seems like it would be strange to use an iPhone to do a
presentation on 500 year old pole arm techniques. Even if it projects it
every bit as well.
It almost feels disrespectful if I walk up to the podium, and plug in my
iPhone to do it. But, it seems cool too.
So, I’m torn.
