Car report

We got the new car last Saturday, drove it home and didn’t drive it Sunday.
So, coming in to work today completed 5 round trips to work as the
dealership is just down the road from my office.
Over those 5 round trips I’ve gone 212 miles (including all lunch trips to
registries, supermarkets, etc.)
According to my gas gage I’ve used just about half a tank of gas. My
manual says that the tank is 9.5 gallons, so that would be 4.75 gallons or
44.63 miles per gallon.
Certainly better than the 26-27 I’d been getting from the coupe the last
few months.
It gives me an update of the average mileage I get per trip. So, I can see
the number go up and down as I drive.
Clearly part of the problem is that I live in a hilly area. I live on a
hill. My work place is on a hill. And, there is a big hill in between.
(That’s right, it’s up hill both ways.)
The car does track the amount of time it charges as it glides. I get about
3 miles on my way home, but only about 1 ½ miles coming in. So it is
clearly more up hill to work than going home, despite the big hill near the
house.
This past week with the 44.63MPG has been with the car in normal drive mode.
I think I’ll try it in “economy” mode and see what that does to the
mileage. I’m sure it will increase it, I’m just not sure how much.
As it is, with the current price of gas, it is saving me about 1 ½ car
payments a year on the gas bill. Not bad, but I can probably do better.
There is clearly a way to dive it that gets better mileage. I’m still
learning how to maximize that.
It drives well. It is true that it does not accelerate as fast as the
sports coupe did. But, it does better than the Subaru Forester. And, it
is plenty to get on and off 495 each day.
It isn’t huge, but is at least as large as the coupe was.
The only place it seems tight is looking through the rear view mirror.
There are headrests on the back seats and they block most of the view.
But, other than that it is fine.
The fact the stereo can automatically link with my iPhone, play music, make
calls and check traffic reports is pretty cool. My wife says that when I
use the car to talk it sounds as good as through the headset. It is a very
quiet car. I’m sure that helps.
The lack of keys needed is still a bit unusually, but I’m getting used to
it. As long as I have the key on me somewhere, the car opens when I lift
the handle, and starts when I push the start button. So, I only need to
keep it nearby and never have to take it out.
I do like to think that it knows me as various SF devices are programmed to
only work for one person. But, I know it is the proximity of the key in my
pocket.
Still, it is a fun thought.
Over all, I am very happy with it. Especially now that all the license
plate, inspection, insurance mess is over.
