Sorry Florida
Jan. 10th, 2012 01:31 pmI’ve mentioned before that where I work now has more diversity in the
workplace than most of the other places I’ve worked. And, that leads to
some interesting conversations.
In the lunchroom today a software engineer, who is from Russia, was telling
the others that the only western artist he likes in Salvador Dali.
There was quite a discussion between the folks there about Dali’s works and
how little it looks like what we produce on our CAD stations.
“You know, there is a Dali museum in Saint Petersburg,” one of the other
software people said.
“No there isn’t!” the Russian fellow said. “I am from Saint Petersburg! I
would know!”
“I went there last year,” the first one said. “When I was staying in
Tampa, we drove over.”
“There is no Tampa in Russia!”
“Not Russia, Florida.”
“Florida is not Saint Petersburg,” the Russian fellow said. “We have the
only real Saint Petersburg. They will have to call it something else!”
“Saint Pete?”
“No, too close!”
“Pete?”
“Still too close!”
“If not Saint Petersburg, how about Ain’t Petersburg?”
“That will do.”
