I’ll admit it didn’t start well.
My day continued to be in schedule hell with my boss.  This time I was
smart enough to run out for lunch when he was busy.  I got to eat half of
it before he noticed and called me back into the meeting.
I did bug out 15 minutes early as well.  When he was in another meeting.
Traffic was horrible.  It was a complete stop on 495.  So, I got on the
turnpike.  It was fine up until 3 miles before my exit when it stopped as
well.  I never saw any reason, and it started moving again right after my
exit.
Then, just to complete a theme, as I pulled into our apartment complex
parking lot, the guy in front of me just stopped for no apparent reason.
He eventually put on his blinkers and I managed to circle around him.
(Narrow lot, it isn’t that easy.  Good thing the coupe is small.)

But, things got much better (as they often do) when my wife joined me.

We went over to Wild Willy’s Burgers for dinner.  Their steak sandwich is
my favorite ever.  It turned out it was that branch’s birthday and they
were having a party.  The owner of the franchise was there, Mr Wild Willy,
and our food was as good as always, but brought out in about half the
normal time.
And, since it was a birthday party, we got free cake as well!

Then, we headed downtown to what I still call the Centrum to see the Cirque
Du Soleil show.
(Of course, keeping with the theme the guy in front of us at the parking
garage just stopped on the way in.  I think they were arguing over the
parking cost with the guy.  They didn’t go again until the person behind us
honked.  The same folks were seated in front of us at the show, so they
were eternally stopped in front of us.)

We had gone to see their Dralion show about a year ago and both liked it.
This was their Quidam show and my wife and I both liked it better.

Our seats were about half way up in the stage right corner.  Apparently a
much sought after position as the users had to move quite a few people out
of the section and to their proper seats.
Although our section was fairly full, the overall show was only about half
full.  Most folks were sitting on our side of the stage and the other side
was quite empty.  I don’t know if they sold blocks of tickets and the other
side was given to a place that doesn’t do well or what.
The woman in front of us had never been to one of their shows before and
told us she had paid the higher price I refused the other day, and still
thought it good.  Maybe those other seats were even more?

The show actually started 2 minutes early and they mocked people who came
in late.  I love shows that start on time, or early, and don’t like it when
people come in late.

If I had to characterize the two different shows we’ve seen, I’d say
Dralion was power and this one, Quidam, was skill.  There was plenty of
skill in the first, and power in the second, but focused differently.
Dralion had people bouncing off trampolines to run up walls and a human
pyramid jumping rope.
Quidam had 16 people dancing through jump ropes, a person jumping rope
inside a person jumping rope inside a person jumping rope and a couple that
just balanced on each other (in amazing ways) for minutes.
Both were amazing.  But, I lean towards the one that took an amazing amount
of choreography to get a crowd of performers moving in unison.

I liked the comedy bits in this one better too.
My wife and I could spot the ringers they bring on stage.  People you bring
up who stand where they’re put, don’t fidget or talk, and only move when
you point at them?  Ringers.

The last bit where they built a trapeze out of people and flung a small
woman up on top of a three story human building had the woman sitting next
to my wife saying “No! Don’t try it!  It’s too dangerous!”
Some of the balance things they two people at the start of act 2 did were
every bit as dangerous, even if at ground level.  Maybe that just wasn’t as
clear.

It was a very good night.  My favorite steak sandwich, free cake and a
great show that got my wife and I talking about all sorts of things.
Doesn’t get much better than that!

Sounds great!

I was totally pegged as a ringer once, although I wasn't, for a performance art show in NYC. The company's first show was called De La Guarda (which I was lucky enough to see several times) and this was their second show, Fuerzabruta.

I was there with Lance and my sister and this guy from the cast crept up and "stole" me while they were preoccupied, probably because I was TOTALLY watching him. They put me into this huge cage and got me dancing then exploded boxes of confetti over my head. It was, odd as it might seem, the most genuine and magical stage experience I've ever had. It was joy.

But the people next to us? TOTALLY REFUSED to believe I wasn't actually part of the cast after that. Even when I walked out of the theatre with her. She must have thought I was one seriously committed performer.

Despite all the people getting in your way, it still sounds like it was a very good night out! Once you put it into perspective, sometimes the best days/things that happen to us also occur alongside some minor setbacks. I think it makes us appreciate the good stuff more.
