Bad administration or small town shake down?

So far there is no sign of the possible sign charges  we were
worried about from the town of Charlton due to our faire.
However, they did send a bill to Ye Olde Commons, where the faire was held,
for the EMT and fire person we had at our faire.
That would be OK, except my wife paid them more than a month in advance by
personally handing the fire chief a check for each of the charges.
And, the new bill is higher due to “administrative charges”.

I suspect this could be because the two guys who worked at the faire went
back and put on their time sheets “event at Ye Olde Commons”.  Whoever
takes those time sheets then said “Ye Olde hasn’t paid us anything for
these guys” and sent a bill.
That would just be bad administration, and could hopefully be fixed
quickly.  After all, I’ve got the canceled checks and can prove we paid.
We’ll see how it goes.
But, I’m not impressed with the town of Charlton so far.

that is SO totally unacceptable. it makes me so angry when places double-bill like that (and try getting your money back if you DO pay them twice). GAH.

I'd say that is fairly common for small town stuff. I avoid paying in advance for anything until/unless I'm handed an official invoice, as usually there are only (2) people working in the town office, and they don't talk to each other!

Well, good thing you have the cancelled checks on record. that should help you muchly.

I wonder if the checks got cashed/deposited immediately or did they wait to clear it w/ paperwork
well, doesn't matter. I hope it gets cleared up fast.

Ye gods. I hope it gets settled promptly... but it should not have to be settled at all.
