The good part 2

I was amazed at how many of my family came to our show this weekend. 14.62% of the folks there on Saturday were in some way related to me. Of course there weren’t many people there, so that means it was only just into double digits of people.
Still I’m pretty sure that with the exception of funerals, the most of my family in one spot in decades.
My aunt and her husband showed up to the show. Even though she is 75 and can’t even stand up straight any more, she climbed down the hill and went to all of our shows.
And, one of my cousins there I hadn’t seen since we got married almost 18 years ago. (OK, 17 years 10 months, 17 days, 19 ½ hours.) When young he and his sister were two of the cousins that I spent a lot of time with until our parents became enemies. So, it was way cool to see him and his new son and his sister and her two sons.
It was also way, way cool that our cousin and her husband drove up from Florida to go to the show. That made me happy in a way I do not have words to describe.

My cousin Laura told me that I had redeemed her in the eyes of her sons. Now that she has proven that she actually has cool relatives they promise to cut her a little slack.

I’m not used to a lot of family support. My mother’s family rarely gives it and my father’s family is all quite far away.
So, it was very strange to me to get it from both sides of the family at this event.
There is a part of my brain that has trouble accepting it even happened. But, there is a bigger part that is very happy that it did.

And, on Sunday my friend Al showed up with his wife and children, our godkids. They are family to me in a way that goes well beyond blood. Performing in front of them is always a joy.

I had no idea how much of your family had managed to come and show support.
