Nine years ago today we started Phoenix swords. We had already given our resignations to the old troupe we had been in for the previous two years.
We knew we couldn’t go on with the old troupe. We didn’t want to give up what we were doing. We wanted to incorporate the historical material we had started learning at the museum.
My wife and I knew that if it was just the two of us, we could manage to do that.
Phoenix Swords seemed like a logical name for the way we were planning to get back into doing shows. So, on July 10, I registered the name phoenixswords.com and we began making plans.
But, less than a week later, we had 5 members and by September more than 2 dozen.
That cause problems of its own. But, it was clear we had people who wanted to do what we wanted to do.
When we started, my wife said "Lets build a group that lasts at least 10 years." At the time that seemed pretty daunting. But, now at 9 years in it doesn't seem so far off.

I've always hoped to do a history of Phoenix Swords like that. But, this is the first one I've done.
