There has been a lot of big weighty matters discussed by a lot of folks on
my friends list lately.  So, I feel a bit strange going on about this.
But, writing things down helps me work things out.  And, the food has to
come from somewhere.  Every time I need to go get food, I think about this.
So, these are the pros and cons of my local supermarket.

Price chopper:
Gives $10 off gas for every $50 I spend.  (The best in the area.)
The best bread I’ve had in the area
A very good meat section
Has a seafood department
Sells mushrooms in the size package I want (big)
Has a sushi section
Has a good hot food section
Has some items I consider less than bland
Stocks my soda less than half the time
Never stocks the vitamins I like to take
Never stocks the soy “ice cream” cones I like
Has never restocked any soy treat since the store first opened
Lousy candy section
Charges me for cash back with my debit card ($0.10)
Strange self checkout method

Stop & Shop:
Gives $10 off gas for every $100 I spend and the points expire.
Almost always stocks my soy cones
Almost always stocks my favorite soda
Does not charge me for cash back
Easy to use self checkout
Closest to home
Very bland selection
Bad at restocking
Small meat department
No seafood department

Shaws:
Gets in occasional out of the ordinary items
Often has my soda
Some times has my soy treats
Least conveniently located
Higher prices
“Mutant” problem

Yeah, that settles it.
I like Roche Brothers best.
Too bad it’s two towns over and by far the most expensive.

Don't forget Whole Foods-yummy and delicious but you leave with pockets turned out, and with yummy food you didn't know you wanted.

Whole Foods is a luxury, not a regular market.
I like it, but I wouldn't shop there for day to day stuff.

Over all Price Chopper is better than most. Stop&Shop is okay, and Shaw's sucks. Can't say about the others as I've never been. Big Y ( which isn't close for you)has good sales once in awhile.

I have never gone into a Big Y and been able to find what I wanted.
So, it isn't even on the list.

Mutant problem?!?

Are we talking nuclear waste-type mutants, or more like space-alien experimentation mutants?

I think it is more the waste type mutants. It's certainly not the type in the movies.

It is the short hand my wife and I use for the very strange people that some areas in and around Worcester seem to attract.
It means the folks who do things like:
Come up to your shopping cart in the store and start telling you why you shouldn't be buying that sort of stuff.
The people in the parking lot who yell at you for not knowing their truck was supposed to have an empty space on all sides of it.
The people who work at the store, but can't figure out how to scan your stuff at the register.

I have yet to find a single market that meets all my needs. Thus, while I usually shop at Hannaford's (the closest), I also make pretty frequent trips to any of the following: Shaw's (for the increasing number of items that Hannaford's no longer stocks), BJs(bulk buying for the Guild), Market Basket , Whole Foods (organic meats!), and Wal-Mart (which believe it or not, carries a few things I haven't found other places, and is just plain cheaper for non-food items like toiletries)

We're pretty much Price Chopper loyalists, especially now that we can get wine and beer there. :) And I love their fishmongers; since we're doing the CSF I don't buy fish these days, but he guys at the old location were always FABULOUS. And I LOVE the new produce section- so much bigger! Also, mosty the employees have had really pleasant attitudes, which is not really the case at S&S.

But: come fall, we'll have a WEGMAN'S! People who have lived close to a Wgman's swear by it, and mourn it when they move, so I'm looking forward to it- it sounds rather like Roche Bros. (WAY too high prices!), but cheaper. :D
