Do you know this movie?

This weekend my wife and I are thinking of taking a field trip down to NYC
and going to the Museum of Natural History.

Many years ago, when I was young, I remember seeing a movie where several
kids go to that museum, come out and go on a boat ride in central park.  As
they sail along, they realize they are going back in time.  They go farther
and farther back in time seeing dinosaurs and all sorts of other things,
until they come to the point when life developed on Earth.
Finally they wake up back in the museum.  But, still have their mud covered
notebook from the trip.

I can not even think of that museum without thinking of that movie.
But, I haven’t a clue to what it was called.  I was pretty young when I saw
it, so it was probably around 1970 or so.  But, it may not have been new
when I saw it.

I’ve tried looking for it on line.  But, keywords of dinosaurs, central
park, natural history museum do not limit the search as I would hope they
would.
But, someone out there with a better memory than I have might know it.
Anyone?

Not the same thing, but this entry made me think of the book From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweller, about a couple of kids who run away from home and live in the Met. They fish change out of the fountains to buy food, and sleep in the big medieval beds.

I remember reading the same book and going to the Met when it was still laid out the way the book describes. I was far more interested in seeing the sights from the book then the other exhbits.

Based on a more extensive search at lunch time, I think it may be this movie I was thinking of:
Journey to the Beginning of Time

Given it's strange production and release history, I no longer feel so bad about not remembering its name.
