The Great Sword Exchange

A couple of weeks ago I got a call for Phoenix Swords from a school group
in near Boston that had a Live Action Role Playing group associated with
them.
They wanted to know if they could borrow a sword that “looks like
Excalibur” for their awards dinner.
I told them I had a sword I would loan them.  They told me they’d give me
two free tickets to the dinner.  I said send me the details in an email and
two of my people will be there with the sword.
I got an email thanking me for agreeing to loan the sword, and the details
of the event.

Last week while at the Ren Center show, two of our members said they wanted
to go to the event, but needed to get the sword from me.
Thinking I’d be free Saturday I said it wouldn’t be a problem meeting them
somewhere to give it to them.

Then, I agreed to go to the Martial Mayhem with my wife.  OK, not too bad.
The folks going to the event live in CT and could pick it up on their way.
Now my worry was trying to hear the phone saying they were there while
doing sword lessons or pike drills when not showing any modern items like a
phone.

Then adorabrightmoon showed up.  She was very kind and offered
to facilitate the Great Sword Exchange for me.
I gave her my car keys.  I went off to play with swords.  Later she told me
it was all taken care of.
That was very, very helpful and I really appreciate it.

Strangely, when the two people got to the event they were told “We didn’t
know if you were coming or not, so we went and got our own sword.  But, you
can come in anyhow.”

I’m not at all sure how my saying on the phone “I’ll have two of my people
there with a sword” made them not sure.
But, I guess it all worked out.

We’ve loaned swords out before.  But, I’m thinking maybe not again.  It
seems like a lot of trouble.
