Her birthday present
Feb. 10th, 2011 10:04 pmMonths ago I bought my wife tickets for the Shen Yun show in Worcester for her birthday present. (www.shenyunperformingarts.org)
Yes, it was 2 1/2 months before her birthday I bought them, and more then a month after it for the show. Get over that.
Tonight was the show. It was very good. We had fairly nice seats in the balcony and had a very good view of the stage.
I was impressed with the amount of fog they used in some dance numbers to simulate dancing in the clouds. I felt back for the orchestra as all the fog flowed off the stage and over them. I think the conductor was waving extra hard to be seen.
The dancing and acrobatics were very impressive. But there was something of a preachy element to some of them.
I understand China is actively anti-religion. A relative of mine were imprisoned there by the current government 50+ years ago when they first took over for being a missionary.
But, this wasn’t just bringing to light human rights violations, it was very specifically pro their religion. Which is being persecuted in China.
It was still a good performance. I just hadn’t expect it to be something of a gospel performance too.
