Mobile Ren faire, day 1
Nov. 18th, 2010 10:46 amOne of the problems with bringing together a group from 5 different states
for a show is that not all the people get to practice together.
David, from New Orleans, very rarely gets to practice with my wife or
So, first thing Saturday morning he and my wife wrote a fight, then had
Perrin learn it as well.

We also did sword lessons for kids in the crowd.

This was Devon’s first time giving sword lessons. No matter how much
warning you give someone about how unpredictable kids are when you hand
them a sword, it always takes people by surprise.
My wife spent a lot of time training Devon to give sword lessons and
warning him of little kids with swords.
But, he still got a sword up the nose.
The good news, he wasn’t hurt much. And, he kept giving sword lessons for
the rest of the weekend. But, once we were sure he was OK, laughter did
ensue.
We had some folks we hadn’t seen in a while stop by and see us.

This woman and her kids used to be regulars at our southern shows, but they
couldn’t make it for the last two years. So, it was very nice of them to
come out and see us again this year.
David’s wife, mother and son came to see us too. So they spent sometime
with father/son bonding.

I’m told the crowds were down some this year, but there still seemed to be
plenty of people about.

Of course, we did our shows.

were doing their Drunk & Sailor shows.

At one point they did take (cotton) candy from children.

I’m not sure if that’s why they were in the stocks or not.

The jousters were down from Canada again. This time their leader and his
son were with them. It is a pretty good joust show.

We did our fire show:

Then, we went out to this place for dinner:

I’m told I looked tired.

But, I think everyone was tired.

But, not too tired to do graffiti on the tables.

It was a good day. After dinner we got together to talk about what would
make day 2 better.
I have to say that the group of folks we work with now are very good about
listening to what is said about the shows and working to improve. It’s
nice to work with folks who want to make a show better for the people
watching, not only for them.

Date: 2010-11-19 12:25 am (UTC)I'm glad the drive down was pretty uneventful (maybe a credit to Rooster Booster? That makes me crack up thinking about it)
and very glad shows went well despite everyone being sick. Ugh!
