Sunday morning [livejournal.com profile] evrgreen’s wife made us french toast while he took the dogs for a drag. It’s sort of like a walk with chew toys.

After the drag, they were more than happy to come in and visit the people too.

I knew we weren’t going to stay too late, so I hit the lake just about lunch time.

Their younger dog seems convinced I am some sort of lake monster. So, although she likes to fetch sticks, if I am near the water she takes them and hides them.

Of course, maybe there are reasons she thinks I’m a lake monster.

[livejournal.com profile] evrgreen did try and reassure her that it was still safe in the lake even with me swimming around in it.

But, it was only when he joined me in the water that she was willing to see for herself.

Once Coco was reassured, she returned to the beach to guard against other lake monsters.

I’m not saying others were seen, but she didn’t go back in the water.

(Neither did my wife citing too much splashing and not enough time before we had to go.)

I will say, for a small lake there were some pretty big fish.

They seemed very willing to swim right up to me until I did something that made them say “Hey! He can see us! Get out of here!”
That was usually my reaching for them. I managed to touch a few, but not grab any.

But, then it was time to get out of the water, get into the car, and drive the hour or more south to Tom’s birthday party.

[livejournal.com profile] palusbuteo, who’s birthday was the day before, has apparently developed a fear of feet. No idea why.

A bunch of us played Bocce. Despite the uneven grass, I did quite well.

Then it was time to do a fire show for Tom’s family and friends.
[livejournal.com profile] morgan_lafaye started by grabbing the sun and pulling it down for us.

My wife and I had eaten a lot at [livejournal.com profile] evrgreen’s, so she only had a little at Tom’s.

Tom and I did our usual sword practice.

Some of Tom’s neighbors seemed to only notice large amounts of waving fire at the very end, so some was brought over to them to examine.

We did manage to hit the road home about 7. That was good as I was VERY tired and happy to get home. While walking around Tom’s house some sort of bug bit me and took a chunk out of my shoulder, so I was doubly happy to leave before the big bugs came out.

"fear of feet"

Wuh??

I think I got stung/bit by one of the hornets on the top of my head just as I was coming inside.

I had asked Brett for me to try a trap made from a plastic bottle to try and kill some of the hornets, so maybe they caught onto my evil plan and decided a preemptive strike was in order...

I am very glad to know that whatever it was, hornet or otherwise, I am not allergic to that particular thing. Not that it was any less painful/annoying/itchy...But being stuck on 495 traffic is never a good idea if one is to develop an allergic reaction to an insect bite :P (Tim and I left about 45 minutes after you, and hit a lot of traffic caused by 3 different crashes within a stretch of 2-3 miles.)

Apparently the end of August is when hornets and yellowjackets are their most aggressive, and the heat apparently helps make them angrier (can't entirely blame that), and it is unfortunate as that is when we have a lot of birthdays, and with nice weather, we're outside with them. :(

It is a very nice lake. They have put a whole lot of work into the house to make it very nice. But, it is!
