AT&T has announced they want to get rid of the “unlimited data” option for
iPad users. Apparently some iPad users have taken the “unlimited” part as
a challenge and are putting quite a strain on the network that was already
pretty close to the limit.
(AT&T has installed free wifi in Times Square NYC just to off load some
traffic from the cell network. I guess giving a few tens of thousands free
wifi is cheaper then more cell towers.)
The rumors are that they will let people who already bought the “unlimited
data” plan keep it if they want.
So, I’ve got to decide which plan to go with:
$15/month 250 meg? No. Way, way too little data for me.
$25/month 2000 meg? Maybe.
$30/mont unlimited meg? Maybe.
When I got the iPad, I tried the 250 meg plan and used up my data in 4
days. At that burn rate, I would use 1875 meg a month, which is still
under the 2000.
But, I was higher then average for those first 4 days. Over the next 28
days I only used 933 meg. Still way over 250 a month, but half of the 2000.
The problem is, if I change out of the unlimited, I can never go back. So,
is it worth $5 extra a month for data I don’t think I’ll use…
