From 1983 to 2005 my group of friends held a cook out each spring called the Bring Your Own Steak. We never had it the same place twice and it was often the only time we got to see some of our friends.
Since [livejournal.com profile] yebo is the only person other then myself to go to every one of those cookouts and the last one was at his house, it seemed appropriate to have a BYOS memorial game night in May, when the party used to be.
So, there was lots of meat cooked on grills.

Everyone brought something to cook and a bit extra, so there was a lot of food. Steak, shrimp, sausage, sauerkraut, salad and shark were only a few of the things there.

We played Munchkin for the first time in a couple of years.

Once every couple of years is just about right for that game...

Then, we played one of my favorite games, You have to pike strange shaped blocks and not have them tip over.

It might not be clear, but [livejournal.com profile] perrin_o_ravnos is winning in the above photo as he has managed to avoid all blocks so far. That’s the best way to get things not to tip over, avoid having to build them.

[livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony had not played before and I was quite mean sticking him with all sorts of bad blocks.

[livejournal.com profile] perrin_o_ravnos did eventually get some blocks which caused his downfall.

Personally, I like trying to build weird towers. If I can get people to say “You’ll never get that piece to sit there” then I’m happy even if it tips over later.

[livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony had quite the come back second game and ended up with the last tower standing.

Just as we left there was a big thunder storm. The police had set up a sobriety road block on the bridge across the lake on the way home. But, there wasn’t anyone there just la “stop here for inspection” sign out. I stopped. I didn’t see anyone. I drove on. In the two miles home after that, I saw there police pulling people over. So, maybe they were chasing folks who didn’t stop?
Don’t know. I don’t worry too much about the roadblocks seeing as the last alcoholic drink I had was 24 years ago today.
