People should give extra clearance when it’s snowing and not say “I can make it in front of them if I floor it.” This is especially true if you’re the third car at a stop sign. Massachusetts law is clear that each car is supposed to stop, even if they could make it if they floor it.*

People who park at the top of a steep, snow covered, hill should not pull their car into the middle of the passageway to clear it off of snow. This both blocks the passage way for an unfortunate red station wagon trying to get out of the lot, and leaves a snow bank that has to be plowed through at the top of a steep hill.

Yes, it is sad when only 3 cars get through the light before it turns red. But, especially when the flashing “emergency vehicle coming” light is on, you should still wait and not go through the red just because you’re tired of waiting.

I know when storms are this wet heavy snow that a lot of it turns to liquid, but the snow blocks the drains. I know this causes major roads to turn into rivers and/or lakes. But, this does not mean you can come into the lane where I’m driving because you don’t want to drive through the puddle. My car will not magically get out of the way because yours is afraid of water.

*To be fair it is 30 years since I read the Massachusetts traffic law cover to cover. They may have added a “when it’s OK to floor it and blow through a stop sign” section in that time. So, I shouldn’t say those folks were wrong when I can’t really say for sure. But, in the snow it is a bad idea even in the unlikely event the traffic law has changed.

UGHS. Sorry you had to deal with so many Massholes this morning. I was fortunate to miss my share.

Although I did have a few on 495 who felt that passing on the Right at 90mph is somehow acceptable behavior, and then somehow expect the Semi truck ahead of them to magically get out of their way, and/or that I'm to magically and with lightning speed be able to shoot over all the way into the Left lane to make room for the jerk riding up onto the truck in the right lane.

In the end, be glad you don't live in Savoy out in Western MA, I heard they got over 26 inches of snow. I've been 'through' Savoy's outer line along route 2 on a trip to Adams MA, and yeah you're IN the mountains. It's really wacky out there.
