They laughed at me!

Last night we picked up the empty keg from my mother in law’s funeral from my wife’s cousin. As I drive by the place I got it on my way home from work, I stopped on the way home to get the deposit back.
“This isn’t one of our kegs,” the said, looking at it.
“Yes it is,” I said, turning to point at another man behind the counter. “I bought it here and that guy there helped me carry it to my car.”
“Our kegs have stickers with our name on them,” the man said. “This keg has no sticker.”
“I bought it December 10th, 2009 about 12:30 in the afternoon,” I told him. “I used this AMEX card to buy it. If you need me to go home and get the receipt I can, but I won’t be happy about it.”
“With that date I can look it up in the computer,” the guy said and headed back to the office.
“You remember the date really well,” the other guy said.
“I should, it was my mother in law’s funeral. That’s why we got the keg.”
He and the other person started laughing.
“You bought a keg for your mother in law’s funeral?” he asked. “I’ve heard about people being happy when that happens, but not doing that!”
“It wasn’t like that,” I said. “It was for the reception afterwards.”
I’m not sure he believed me.
They did find the record of my buying it. It wasn’t under my name or my MIL’s. It was under “pre-paid”.
I also found out why there was no sticker on it. It was still attached to their paperwork in their file.
At least they apologized for the trouble...
