Last night Holly and I went to see Enchanted. It’s well made. Well acted.
Has some funny bits in it. (I particularly liked the Central Park musical
number.)
But, it made me very sad.
Even in fantasy movies the prince (with an evil mother and betraying friend)
proclaims eternal love, follows his love to a strange place he never
expected, does what she requests there to win her heart, ends up losing her
to another man.
How am I supposed to win my wife back if it doesn’t even happen in fantasy
movies?
I don’t want a happy ending for the guy with the daughter who falls in love
with her when she’s away from the prince.
That’s not a happy ending for me. That’s what I’m afraid of. This other
guy (with not 1 but 2 daughters) is going to end up with my wife.
And, no, the prince ending up with a cartoon woman at the end didn’t make
it better for me. That’s not what I want either. Although it’s not the
first time Holly suggested it was what I wanted. I want the Central Park
dance numbers in the real world not a tacked on ending so people don’t say
“what happened to the other two?”
Sad.
