A long 12 miles
Dec. 11th, 2009 03:18 pmYesterday going to my mother in law’s memorial, I needed to stop at the bank, and pick up the desert for the reception afterwards.
It was a total of 12 miles. If you looked at those directions on line, it would tell you it should take 31 minutes.
Yesterday it took us 73.
I had thought at 2 in the afternoon, traffic would be OK. But, I forgot that was when school gets out. Apparently far more people drive their kids home from school then when I was a kid. Dozens of cars were pouring out of each of the schools we went past, and we went past at least 4.
Added to that was the main highway through the city was shut down for some reason. I was going to take it anyhow, but lots of people who were going to take it got off onto the roads I did plan to use.
For some reason, people seem to drive worse this time of year. I’ll grant you, there is a lot to get done, and not a lot of time. But, we saw some moves from other cars that should have led to arrests. Right turns from the left lane. Total failure to yield or let other people in.
There were folks who did yield and let us pull out places. So, not everyone drove badly.
But, it was a frustrating drive for what should have been a short distance.

Date: 2009-12-11 10:43 pm (UTC)I'm sure you are right in that more parents are driving their kids to and from school, I have heard from schools saying they are at wits' end trying to make budget for school buses, so I'm sure somehow down the line the parents figure it's more cost effective to do it themselves.
