Although it was a rainy day, when I asked my wife if she wanted to do anything for our anniversary weekend, she said: “I want to go to the beach I went to when I was young.”
So, we set off for Misquamicut beach in Rhodes Island.
It’s about a two hour drive from home, but there wasn’t much traffic to deal with.
When we got there, we found it wasn’t really a big beach day.

Despite the rain, it was warm enough and with an umbrella it wasn’t bad walking on the beach.

Apparently one of my “super” powers is to find lost toys on beaches. Today was no exception.

As with other cases, no matter how sad and lonely it looks, I leave it there in case the original owner comes back to look for it.

The water looked warm and I was tempted to wade in it.

Two things stopped me. First, there seemed to be a lot of junk in the water just at the water line.

Second, there were dozens if not hundreds of jellyfish washed up just past the retreating tide. So, I’m sure there were thousands in the water itself.

There were things other than jellyfish washed up.

But, far more jellyfish then anything but seaweed.

Looking off to the west, it almost looked like there was an island sitting just off of the coast.

I figure it is Atlantis. But, I could be wrong.

I was surprised to see folks go driving out on the beach. The sand seemed very loose and I’m sure it takes a high ground clearance vehicle to do it.

But, after a bit of walking up and down the beach in the rain, we headed back to the almost empty parking lot and headed off.

My wife had hoped for a small clam shack or other beach place to eat lunch. There were plenty of them there, but all closed for the season. We kept following the road until we ended up in a part of Conneticut we recognized.

(OK, I make it sound like we drove a long way to get to the next state. But, from the beach in RI to Mystic CT was all of 9 miles...)

We had lunch at a nice place that overlooks the aquarium we like and the shopping village we often go to when down here.

I kept to the sea bug theme for the weekend, but my wife branched out into other invertebrate for lunch.

We did go into the shopping village enough to get some fudge at the general store there. Then, back through the rain to home.

All in all, a fun day of wandering beaches and 3 different states.

Maybe your super powers are good at finding other things.

For some odd reason I find myself reading the "Lost Swords" books over again - it's been easily 12+ years since I've read them. someone with your powers might have been very useful in those stories...

Well, those swords weren't usually good things to have around, so I'm glad not to find them. It has been a very long time since I have read them as well...

It was a very nice day, rain and all.

Things washing up..

Glad you only found a ducky and didn't encounter any mobster-pots.
That is, unless Sesame Street's Burt really did "whack" Earnie.
Of course, bales of pot have also washed up on that shore, too.
happy anniversary!
