Elm Park in Worcester is having an “Art In The Park” exhibit that I walked through today.

It started at the gate I went through with red pillars made of paper plates and bowls.
I liked this as an entry to the park. It really was like walking past on honor guard, or through some sort of portal. It was a good start to the exhibit.

Next was one of the ones I thought was the strangest. Who would turn a VW Microbus into a giant toaster? I’m not saying it isn’t art, wasn’t well done, or anything like that. I’m saying what makes someone look at a VW and think “toast”?

This is the one that I spotted from the road the other day that made me want to come back and look at the others.

I don’t think this was part of the exhibit, but it is hard to tell sometimes.

This one was very cool. I’m somewhat sad that it was the only piece of art in the park with a “no vandalism” sign on it. There were others in the park, but this was the only one on the art. Hopefully that isn’t a sign people have been picking on this one. But, it is cool and I can understand how it would be hard to resist playing with it. I did, but I understand the temptation.

This one I almost missed in the tree. It has a lot of electric lights on it, so is probably better at night. But, this isn’t the best of parks to frequent at night and is closed after 10 anyhow.

This one was interesting, but reminded me too much of “Fantastic Voyage” and the attacking white cells.

I liked this one a lot. I’ve talked at length about how long it took the towns in the area to clean up after last December’s ice storm. I’m not surprised someone had the time to make this next while waiting.

This one looked cool, but I don’t understand the title.

If not for the name plate on this one I would have thought it the park department planting new trees.

This one was one of my favorites. I stood next to it to give it some scale as it is hard to get otherwise.

The cool thing about this one is that it is built around a tree. I couldn’t really get it on camera, but the polished part on the top makes it look like it is transparent and that the tree only comes out of the last box. That’s a cool trick, but didn’t photograph well.

I liked these if for no other reason then the welding.

This is where I saw the ghost of Einstein...

This one just got cooler and cooler the closer I got to it.

Parts of this one were spinning in the wind. I’m not sure if that was intentional or not. Only some of them did it.

This one gets my vote for the coolest one there, but it just can’t be photographed.

He has some shapes on the back section.

Then, there are slats in the front part.

So, when you walk towards it, the slats move over the shapes and it makes it look like birds flying.

You don’t really get the effect unless you stand it front of it and walk towards it. I tried to get it on video, but didn’t have the full camera so it didn’t come out well. But, it is really cool to see.

This is another one that involved a tree in the art. I took the picture from far away on the side as it is easier to see that way.

Of course there is the art that has always been there. This is a really big statue of a couple plowing the land.

It was a really cool exhibit. I’m glad I stopped to look at it and wish they did things like that when I lived down the road from the park.

EDIT: Apparently I missed 2 on the official list. #10 and #13...
Sad.

Awesome post!
I loved that you got pics of the descriptive signs with each one.(I really like reading those)

Did you know the exhibit was going on or was it one of those "drive by, hey look at that, I think I'll stop, turns out to be really cool" things?

Both.

Saturday when we were in Worcester for the "Women of Comics" at the comic book store I spotted a sign for it and a couple of pieces from the road. But, we didn't stop.

Yesterday I knew about it so made a point of going to see it.
