How could I have missed the 10 year anniversary of the Moon getting blasted out of Earth orbit?!?!

I thought it was the 15th, but it was the 13th. I’m sure it was the wacky gravity from it that messed me up. That’s it. I’m sure.

I had my phone interview today.
I’m not sure how it went.
I’m told they have many, many folks who applied for the job and the phone interviews are only to decide who to actually bring in for an in person one.
So, when the guy says “OK, we’re going to stop there” when I’m answering his question on how I’d rate my talents, I don’t know if it is a good thing or a bad thing.
It could be “I’ve heard enough to meet him in person” or “I’ve heard enough to know he’s not for us”.
Sadly, I get the feel it might be more of #2.
They’re a very high end consulting company. The guy I talked to has a PhD in mechanical engineering, an MBA and a degree in English Literature. That’s not the most common combination out there.
I can’t say he sounded impressed at my 6 years of designing furniture.
I did try and play up the analysis and calculations needed for what I did. And, it is much more than most people give credit. After all, if a shelf needed to hold 300 pounds, the CEO didn’t want to pay for the steel to hold 301. He wanted every penny of material out of it and still meet the requirements. And, that was a lot of analysis.
But, cubicles aren’t sexy.
So, I’m not sure how it went over.
If I hear back from them next week, I’ll know.

ugh sorry to hear

I had a very similar experience calling a woman in a Boston Suburb for a possible contact and inclusion on an educational database for school programs - But she was very strict and cold and unemotional. She stopped me once or twice when I was trying to answer questions, and make relevance of topics she didn't quite think I was able to connect to, but I was.

Anyway...

Hope you still get something out of it.

I got a 0% financing Card Offer from Prudential in the mail today...If I start getting more card offers maybe (banks) are willing to make more risks again and "we" are on the recovery...Doubt it though. :P

She wouldn't let you talk about Moonbase Alpha?
That's horrible!
You were probably trying to talk about the second season with that shape changing woman in it.
You should stick to the first season and it's "hour of weird space shit" format and forget all that exciting stuff of sex and violence of season 2.

I remember my first job interview at Allen-Bradley/Rockwell very well. I thought it was one of the worst interview experiences I had ever had at the time. The senior engineering guy interviewed me for about an hour and a half, and he continually seemed to get angrier and louder as it went on. It wasn't that I didn't know the answers to his questions - he actually was asking me stuff that I knew very well, but apparently he didn't. I tried to be very polite and diplomatic, but it was clear that he didn't see things the same way as I did. I left @ the end of the day thinking "well that one is blown up on me for sure". They called the next day with a job offer - I think that I was the only person/candidate who had/could stand up to the guy, and he respected that. So, don't despair yet - but obviously the person who interviewed you should have been more clear/tactful on the phone. Fingers crossed for ya, buddy!

With all respect to the many people I know who fall into this category... Talking with PhD's never seems to be very clear/tactful...
I don't take it personally.

But, i do think he is looking for a very hard numbers analysis guy, and that isn't really me. I can do it. But, it isn't my strongest point.
We'll see. Maybe I'm wrong. There's always home, right?

I also preferred the first season, too !

You probbably already knew of these guys, but I just recently found them - source for all those 'really old' toys and models, but not cheap!
