Strange Dream

I dreamed that Phoenix Swords was hired to do a show in Australia.
But, we all knew that it wasn’t a real world gig, but a simulated world that we all hooked into, even if it seemed totally real.
So, much like the trans-continental boats in World of Warcraft, our ship just came into being a ways off the Australia coast in the middle of the night.
But, something went wrong with the ship and we were all thrown into the water. It was dark and foggy but we could hear the surf and started swimming for shore.
The moon was up, so there was some light. I could see my wife and blue_micha swimming near me.
I couldn’t see the others.
I could see the great big shark swimming around near where the ship went down.
blue_micha was very worried we couldn’t see perrin_o_ravnos.
“He may have waited to see the shark,” she said. “He loves salt water fish.”
We thought it was more likely he was just off somewhere in the fog.
As we swam, we saw a rock just under the surface of the water. We swam up onto it and stood up to look around. We couldn’t see perrin_o_ravnos anywhere, but we could see the beach. The shark wasn’t very close, so we jumped in and swam to shore.
Once we got to shore we started walking up and down looking for our people and our stuff from the ship. As the night went by, we found some of our stuff, and most of our people, but still no perrin_o_ravnos.
We requested that the computer simulation we were in locate him for us. It told us that was not allowed as he was still alive in the simulation and we had to find him ourself.
But, the computer agreed to give us a projection of him to help guide us.
So, a transparent perrin_o_ravnos appeared with us.
“Where are you?” We asked him.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I was knocked out and am still out.”
“Well, you must be floating face up,” I said. “Or, you’d have drown and the computer would just rez you.”
“That makes sense,” he agreed, “But, I still don’t know where I am.”
So, we started walking along the beaches looking for him.
Unlike the pictures I’ve seen of Australia, these beaches were more like Glochester or Maine near Bar Harbor. Very rocky. Lots of little inlets and coves.
We walked along for a fair bit of time. Then, I realized we were near where saeble lived.
“Let’s ask him to help,” I said. “He probably knows where stuff washes up around here.”
His house was right along the edge of a stone cliff in one of the rocky coves. The cove was so still that all the falling leaves from the trees covered it and were still floating on it.
saeble was at home and let us in. He did know where things usually washed up near there and offered to take us.
“But, don’t get your hopes up,” he said. “Hypothermia may have set in as it’s pretty cold this time of year.”
“We know he’s not dead because the computer gave us a projection,” I said, pointing to his projection waiting outside. “So, we should be good.”
We set off and came to a big sandy beach. perrin_o_ravnos was still floating in the water just past the surf line. We waded in and pulled him to shore.
As he woke up, the computer shut down the projection.
“Now we just need to find the rest of our stuff before we can do our show,” I said.
“Don’t worry,” saeble said. “I can make replacements for anything that got lost.”
Dream ends

What is remarkable to this dream for me is that I can clearly see where my mind got the bits it put together into this dream.
Earlier this week I watch the movie Gattaca which has characters swimming at night on the ocean through fog.
Last weekend 5 great white sharks were spotted off Cape Cod about 50 miles from here. (5 being a record in these parts. 1 is fairly common, 2 not uncommon. But, 5 confirmed? That’s a lot.)
I’ve been watching my Red Dwarf DVDs where one of the characters is a hologram recreation of a dead crew member.
Yesterday I watched the second Matrix movie where everyone is in an artificial world and knows it.
I’ve been playing a lot of World Of Warcraft where the ships between continents just appear off shore and sometimes are bugged and dump you in the ocean.
saeble has been talking about making some new equipment for the troupe for us and we’ve been talking about setting up a video link which is also a kind of VR.

I have dreams like this too - I can figure out and "see" where I got the images and scenes from, compared to events and things from the day, sometimes over the course of 2 days or so.
