For our wedding 16 years ago we received a nice floor lamp that has been the main light in our bedroom ever since. (I don’t remember who gave it to us, but my thanks to them!)
It has been somewhat flakey lately. Sputtering really isn’t a good way to describe an electric light, but that is what it was like.
Finally, the other night, it wouldn’t turn on at all.

I was pretty sure it was due to the dust. Not only all the dust we raised last week, but dust deposited over 16 years in the socket.

So, I went over to the Home Despot today and bought a new socket for it.

Taking it apart was a bit more challenging then expected because the builders had thoughtfully left a nut holding it together in a place I could not reach. But, I got it out eventually even if it made sure I’d never use the socket again.

It went back together easier then it came apart and is now working well again.

So, for very simple electrical repairs, my mechanical skills are still working.
Good to know.

In job news, nothing.
I did take a step I've been avoiding and contacted an old boss to see if he had anything open.
I've got nothing at all against this boss. I've worked for him at two different companies.
That's actually part of the problem. I don't want my career to be following him around. (Not that I've had that offer.)
Maybe it won't turn into anything, but it can't hurt, right?

Job...nope, can't hurt.
