Lake pirates
Aug. 9th, 2009 12:08 amThis morning we got up and admired the hard work the spiders had done outside of

Once past the webs, we headed into the lake.

The very rainy July had washed a lot of the beach in front of their house into the lake. So, Evrgreen did his best to put a new beach in place.

While he did that we braved the water.

The water was very nice, and warmer then the air. So, once we got into the water it was very nice.
The lake is not very wide and a couple of us swam to the other side and back.
As we swam there, an osprey flew over us several times looking for fish in the water.

It was around most of the day and seemed to get a few fish.
During the day there were lots of boat rides for everyone. The dogs really seemed to like riding in the canoe. When only one got the ride the other seemed put out.

But, as soon as the shore was reached, all was forgiven.

Soon, the whole family was setting sail.

I had no problem waiting for everyone to get back.

We did our best to practice Bonetti’s defense as mentioned in The Princess Bride.

As soon as the boats returned, we all had lunch.

Then, we went off to pick blueberries.

It wasn’t very far to go as the blueberry bushes grow where their yard hits the lake. So, we could wade through the water getting the berries.

After that, I decided to try a boat ride.

Our wives got in the other boat and followed me.

We went to the cove north of their place where there is a beaver lodge.

We didn’t see any, but I’m told they are often cruising the lake at night.
There seemed to be some sort of party going on over on the other side of the lake. A young man in a small boat came by and apologized for the noise. Apparently they were up from Rhodes Island and having a big party. I saw he had a fishing pole and asked if he was after something specific. He raised a pole with a knife taped to the end and said he was going to use that instead.
This lake is 1/2 mile long and 1/5 miles wide. I’m not sure what he thought lurks in it that would require such a spear. But, spear ready, he headed back across the lake to his party.

My wife then took one of the float chairs and relaxed in the lake.

She looked very peaceful there, even if I’m told fish were nibbling on her toes.

(The spear fisherman was not called to deal with them. Just as well.)
She was able to float there for quite some time before the folks next door decided to go water skiing and caused a capsize.

I offered to do a canoe pirate attack on them for this, but it was called off. We did have a long discussion on the probable of piracy on a small lake. And, if we moved up to the big lake north of there how it would be best done. We concluded jet ski with airplane escape would be best. Sadly we did not have the equipment to implement this.
After dinner we headed home. It seemed that at least one family member was willing to come home with us.
<

But, we convinced him to stay.
We did have a very good time and were quite grateful to be invited to visit. It was very good to see

Date: 2009-08-11 03:14 am (UTC)Hey, I think that they really DO have a "Disco Night" on the international space station... at least, if I was stuck up there for months, I'd probably be organizing something like that..
