Hate those hackers

So some hacker managed to embed something in the Phoenix website that set off the Google police. They, correctly, marked it as a hazard and blacklisted our site.
My wife spent most of the day trying to fix it and was quite upset and frustrated by it.
According to her, because I know nothing of these things, it's got to do with the server who hosts our site and nothing at all to do with our content. I guess the server can be compromised and that's all there is too it.
So, after 7 years of having our site with the same people, we're looking to move it.
It annoys me a lot. It's not the first time something like this has happened.
I just don't understand what the people who do get out of it.

usually a hacked site will send the poor sap who visits to another linked site with a clickjacking and install some malware, perhaps even a trojan that installs a botnet client, turning their machine into a zombie which does their bidding, usually, sending spam.

There are several blacklisting host services that various ISPs subscribe to. Once your site/domain name is on the "list", it may take a few days to get it off again even after things have been cleaned up and/or moved to another host. It is annoying, and it is a somewhat common occurrence these days. My ISP (worldpath.net) would get slammed practically every month, until enough of their customers complained for them to get some real IT experts and better protection mechanisms.

Those hackers from Eastern Europe/Russia/China/Malaysia/practically anywhere the economy sucks have to get their practice on various servers/systems so that they can sell their services to the Chinese government...
