Since getting out of college back in the 80’s I’ve had 7 different jobs and am looking for my 8th. To get those jobs, I’ve sent out thousands of resumes and received hundreds of rejection letters.

But, I’ve never had a rejection come back as quickly as today.
I applied on line at 9:40 and at 10:54 got a rejection letter.
Technology, isn’t it great?

And, I have to say, I thought their rejection letter was a bit insulting:
“Thank you for your interest in a career with us and taking the opportunity to apply for the position of  Sr. Mechnical Engineer.  After careful review of your application, we have determined that you do not possess the qualifications necessary for the position.”

I don’t see how they can claim “careful review” in the time give.
I’ve had “Senior Engineer” on my buisiness card at 4 companies for the last 14 years. Don’t tell me I’m not qualified for it.

I know, I know, it’s just a form letter.
But, I prefer the “we don’t think your qualifications meet our needs at this time”. Or, “we don’t feel your experience is the best match for our opening.”

Wow, that is a fast turn around. Did he even read it to see? Sounds like he is wading through and not even really looking at experience.

Or "We only put this job up to make the stockholders think we are a growing healthy company and that fact is we are not really hiring at all."

Wow, that is a record turn-around, but I think..

that it is very likely that they aren't even going to hire ANYONE for the position, and it is a sham/facade, as others indicated, to make it appear that they are healthy, etc.

Some of these are really completely automated responses and are generated after the thing goes through the "buzz word detector" where it simply looks for the most matches on specific buzzwords that they feed into it. Not getting a very high score on the buzzword detector means an automatic rejection response.

Don't feel bad - I've gotten similar rejections from DEKA - a place that I'd REALLY wanted to work at, when I was completely qualified - perhaps overqualified - for the position that I applied for. Their response was that I didn't have the necessary qualifications, in spite of the fact that I hold (2) US patents in a closely related area that they specified, and over 10 years of direct experience. Go figure!

There are more fish in the sea, do not despair and don't let the poorly communicative get ya down!

There was an extensive series of questions before uploading my resume. So, you're probably right that I didn't click what they wanted for some answer and got an auto-no.

It's just the "you do not possess the qualifications necessary" when I hit every single line item in their ad.

The (kind of) good news is it was a job outside of Hartford CT and would have been an very bad drive. So, I wasn't really hoping this one would come through.
But...

Thank you for that reassurance, evrgreen. The rejection sounded pretty lame to me as well.

That does really suck. But I bet that they eitehr aren't actually hiring, or are faking a search when they have an internal candidate.

My sympathies, though- that's pretty outrageous.

Yeah, I agree, that auto-no (great word!) stinks on ice. They could have been a teeeensy bit more human in the response.

I think Evrgreen said it - You might have been 'overqualified' and they got intimidated by your awesome.

And yeah, that commute woulda sucked to high heaven.
