Paperwork day

Yesterday my wife was told that to add me to her insurance, she needed our marriage certificate.
When we got married 15 1/2 years ago, we got a bunch of copies from city hall. But, it’s been a long time since someone asked for one. I’m not sure if we still have a copy. And, if we do, it would be in the office.


Yeah.
The city clerk’s office opened at 8:45 and my wife’s meeting where she needed it was at 9:30. So, I went into Worcester early and waited for the clerk to open.

The Worcester city hall is one of those old stone buildings with a park out behind it.


The park is there for show, not for fun.


(What do you expect of a city with the motto: “Obedience to the Law is Liberty”?)

This is the same park that has the famous statue of the turtle boy.


Why a city 40 miles inland would have a statue of a young man enjoying the company of a sea turtle is not clear.
But, at least to me, it doesn’t look like the turtle was happy.


Back in city hall, it is very nice inside.


And, there are suits of armor on the walls.


The plaque with the armor says it was given by the city of Worcester in the UK to this city of Worcester 100 years ago. (November 1908.)
That’s cool.

They also have the ships bell for the USS Worcester.


I dropped the form off with my wife, then headed back down town. Across the street from the city hall is the unemployment office. To avoid several hours of wait on the phone, I decided to go in person


There were at least a dozen people already waiting when I got there, and they were scheduled to be open, but weren’t.
They did open soon after and it didn’t take me too long.
By 11 I was swinging by my old company dropping off the final forms to get my severance pay.

My wife and I like a peanut sauce mix that sells out and takes months to restock. So, since I was roaming about anyhow, I stopped at some stores I don’t normally go to in the hopes they had it.
They did.
They also have a scanner system I haven’t seen before. You take the scanner and some shopping bags when you come in.
As you shop, you scan the items and bag them in your cart.


That seems quicker at check out. But, it was very strange to me to use what looked like a Star Trek phaser on my groceries.


I finished off the soup morgan_lafaye brought us Wednesday for lunch. I don’t know if it got rid of my cold as she hoped it would, but I am feeling much better.

For the afternoon, I finished out the living room.


At some point, I’ll get to that office. But, I’m not sure when.
I’ve got to work on my presentation for the University of Massachusetts in 2 weeks, and I started working on more juggling today.
We’ll see.
