It was a bright and sunny day, if cold. (-5C and windy) But many folks made it practice.

We started off with my teaching some additional folks how to do the dusack from Meyer’s 1570 book and dagger from Fiore’s 1400 or so book.

Robin REALLY wants us to start doing the scythe from Mair’s 1550 book. He was quite a character and his book covers a lot of unusual weapons like scythe and sickles:

We have some from a few year ago that were taken apart to clean. So, they had to go back together.

This continued while I worked on swords with folks.

Finally Robin raided her father’s old tool box and we got them together.

We wanted to start going through the instructions, but they are so horrifically dangerous that we put them aside and just used some staff for now.

Robin did add some tape so we could tell where the blade should be.

As Robin had hurt her back Ian and I tried it out.

Yes, I did use my tape to tickle his nose…

I guess some folks practiced outdoors while all this was going on, but I hadn’t noticed that.

We worked through about half the moves for this weapon. There are only 10 exchanges, so not a while lot.

We made it home by sunset, but the sun was VERY low by the time we got there.

(Decades ago when my wife and I created and published our own comic book we had a character named Scythe that my wife created. That character hopped over to another independent comic in the area and became pretty popular. So, we've had an affinity for them since the 80's. But, this is the first time we'll be actually using them...)

I kinda want one since I have 3/4 acre of pastureland but I've not come across one IRL and been like Hey I need that.
