I get the Doctor Who reference now…
May. 9th, 2024 07:27 amYesterday I had my 5 hours day at the dentist where all the teeth in my upper jaw were worked on and capped.
$8250 after my insurance.
The issue was my upper teeth were wearing away. It had gotten quite bad and I was worried that they weren’t going to last much longer. So, steps had to be taken to keep them.
The dentist thinks it is from my acid reflux problem a few years ago. That I dissolved the outer cover of enamel and they’ve been disintegrating since.
And, as it really was the inside face of the front upper teeth, that does fit the facts. It’s been noticeable for a while and really bad the last few months where I could feel them getting smaller over time.
To cap them takes space. So, the back teeth needed to be increased in height to make room for the repaired front teeth. That’s why all of them needed to be updated.
So, the whole spacing of my upper and lower jaws has changed.
It was a long day. Drilling, adjusting and capping a dozen teeth at once was not the kind of experience I am in any hurry to repeat.
Of course, it’s not over yet. I go back next week to make sure they’re spaced right and then in another month to get the final caps.
It feels weird. Like wearing a mouth guard that is now a permanent part of my mouth.
But, I get the Doctor Who reference where he regenerates and says “new teeth… That’s weird”.
That is totally how it feels.

Date: 2024-05-09 11:34 pm (UTC)the "new teeth, weird" yeah that's been my experience thus far with the double-cavity from January.
The previous cavity from almost 10 years ago the next tooth up, which was done during a power outage, I've had no weird feeling.
But this new one? Yeah. It feels weird.
Don't like it.
But most of the time I don't seem to notice anything. Other times it's faint but still enough I notice.
this getting old thing is getting old
