We’ve got two days at sea as we cruise around the bottom of Africa to Cape Town and this was the first.
As there were no formal plans, my wife opted to sleep late.
I went off to the restaurant at the back of the ship and had breakfast watching the Indian Ocean roll by.
Next I explored the ship some and found you can go out on the balcony at the front top of the ship, it was just a different door than we had looked at before. We were going with the wind, so it was remarkably still and dry there.
My wife texted she was awake, so I returned to the cabin.
We followed that same path at lunch time. Meal on the aft deck, then up to the front observation deck for a while. It was even the same table for lunch as dinner, which the waiter noticed as well.
The manager of the Asian restaurant we had eaten at the night before and really liked was there, so we complimented her on having the best restaurant on board.
This turned into a long discussion with her about life on board, her future plans and the new ship the company is about to launch. (Silver Ray)
In the afternoon I decided to try the pool.
It isn’t very big. But, with the ship going up and down in the waves it does generate its own tides.
And, if you time it right, it is possible to swim downhill.
It’s a bit like riding a wave in the ocean, but different as your direction of gravity moves as well.
The water was very warm, closer to the temperature I’d expect of a hot tub than a pool.
So, I didn’t stay super long. Plus, the sun was very strong there.
In the evening we went back to the Asian restaurant. It was again very good.
Afterwards we went up on deck as it was finally clear enough to see some stars.
I’m nowhere near as good with the southern constellations, but still look forward to seeing them.
(I used to give planetarium shows on the stars of any given day when I worked at the science museum 40 years ago. But, they were northern stars…)
So, not a busy day compared to the others, but still a nice one.
Another day at sea tomorrow, then off at Cape Town.
