These are quite different to the tradition here, quite short and succinct. Those who knew and loved a person will each write their own memorial article, in accordance to their own character. Some speaking of memories, some of facts, some of emotions. The intent is both to grieve, and honour the one that has passed. Shedding light on who the person that has passed was, what they meant to others, and preserving it for the future. Is that far from the custom in the US?

It is very dependent on who is writing them. When my uncle Jack died last year his went on for 3 pages.

I wrote the one for my sister and since she had been trying to separate herself from the family, I didn't want to put things into it that would make it look artificially close. I just wanted enough to make sure anyone who knew her and went looking could get the news.

My cousin Katie, her husband wrote that when he was still in shock. So, I think it was short out of denial.

My father's 22 years ago was about twice the length of my wife's uncles here.

My family is not generally good about expressing things. So, I wouldn't take out entries as the standard.
But, they are often fairly short here in the Us. Usually no more than one page.
