I worked at home all week. I only went out to take out the trash and to take my car to get serviced. So, no photos worth much this week.

But, it is my friend Mike’s birthday, and Monday is his wedding anniversary. So, I decided to go through my old photos and see if I could find some of him and his husband.
I did:

This included some photos of us visiting them somewhere around 25 to 30 years ago before they moved out west.

And, while looking for those photos, I found lots of other old ones. Many of these, I don’t know where they’re from or exactly when.
This one of my wife in the woods could be from almost any point in the last 30 or so years…

I know who’s house these were taken in, and that dates it to pre-2007. And, clearly a halloween, and I only met them in 1996. So, there is a 10 year band they could be.

This is either from our trip to Ireland in 1996 or 2000. I’m not sure which…

I strongly suspect this one is from 1993. Some friends I made when I lived in New Hampshire in the late 80’s turned out to be relatives. The summer before my wife and I got married, they had a big party at their house and invited my parents to compare family history.
This photo shows my father, on the left, and my friends father, on the right, sitting together with his family record book to compare notes.
We’re 95% sure we’re related as both families come from the same town in Vermont and some names line up, but no direct proof.

And, I must admit my first thought on see things was "Oh my God! My father is smiling!"

These are from the 2000 trip to Ireland.

This is from one of my ancestral homelands in Vermont where there is a big memorial tower to a battle from a few centuries ago. My family used to have a home within sight of that statue at the base.

This is the house my great grandfather had built, my grandfather and father grew up in.
I have never been inside as when my grandfather died they had to sell it to settle his debts. They sold it for less than my iPad cost.

It’s just past this covered bridge.

And, next to the school where my grandmother was a teacher and my grandfather’s brother was principal. Good thing he introduced him to his brother…
You can see how far away the house is on the right.

Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised my ancestral home has a fey door in the tree outside…

These photos were taken more than 20 years ago when I was up there to bury my father’s remains that fit in a very tiny box.

And, I can say without doubt that I have looked straight into my father’s grave.
